Square Enix will release Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on April 8, 2027. The company has also revealed two story DLCs focused on Sephiroth and Vincent, along with data download requirements for physical editions.

The Trilogy Finale Launches on All Platforms on the Same Day

Revelation will conclude the story reimagined through Remake and Rebirth. Official Square Enix store information confirms an April 8, 2027 release date.

Unlike the PlayStation-focused release strategy of the previous games, PC, Xbox Series, and Switch 2 players will all gain access to the final chapter on the same day.

Players will travel through a more interconnected world aboard the Highwind. Previews indicate that Cid and Vincent will join the playable roster, while the combat system combining real-time attacks with command-based abilities will be further expanded.

A new job and costume system called FITS will give characters different roles and visual customization options.

The development team says Revelation contains more content than Rebirth while emphasizing that not all of it will be required to complete the main story.

This approach appears designed to give players who felt overwhelmed by the density of activities in Rebirth's large open world more freedom to choose how they progress.

A larger map does not automatically mean a longer mandatory playtime.

Two Story DLCs for Sephiroth and Vincent

Two additional story expansions are planned as part of the Story Expansion Pass.

The first DLC will focus on Sephiroth, while the second will center on Vincent and the Turks.

Their release window stretches from winter 2027 through spring 2028. Square Enix says the base game itself will complete the trilogy's main story, meaning these expansions will not function as a mandatory final chapter that players must purchase separately.

This distinction is important.

Players will not need to buy the Expansion Pass to see the true ending of the main storyline. Instead, the DLCs are positioned as additional content that expands on the characters' pasts and fills in certain gaps surrounding the main narrative.

Since exact release dates have not yet been announced, only the broader seasonal windows provided by Square Enix should be treated as confirmed.

Physical Editions Require Additional Downloads

Physical editions will work differently depending on the platform.

According to the official store description, the Xbox version requires additional game data to be downloaded.

The Nintendo Switch 2 edition uses a Game-Key Card and requires players to download at least 130 GB of game data.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi has defended the use of downloadable data alongside physical media, explaining that the team did not want to reduce the technical scope of the game to fit physical storage limitations.

As a result, buying a boxed copy does not necessarily mean that the entire game is stored offline on the disc or cartridge on every platform.

Players interested in collecting physical editions or reselling them later should check internet requirements, storage needs, and box contents for each platform before purchasing.

The standard edition starts at $69.99 in the United States.

Day One, Deluxe, and Collector's Edition options include different physical and digital extras depending on the retailer and platform.

Preorder bonuses include the Sylph summon materia and additional rewards tied to save data from previous games.
