4A Games confirmed during the latest State of Play presentation that Metro 2039 will be released on February 4, 2027. The new trailer showcased gameplay set across Moscow's underground tunnels and irradiated surface while also revealing technical features being prepared for PlayStation 5 Pro.

The Stranger's Story Begins

Metro 2039 retains the series' single-player, story-driven FPS structure. This time, players will take control of a new character known as "The Stranger."

According to 4A Games, the adventure will take place both in the claustrophobic tunnels of the Metro and across dangerous areas on the surface. Resource management, handcrafted weapons, and carefully observing potential threats will remain central elements of the experience.

The trailer showed new enemy types, combat in dark interior environments, and open sections on the surface.

However, the game's exact position in the series timeline, which characters from previous titles may return, and how its open-world scale compares with Metro Exodus have not yet been revealed.

Although the "2039" title appears to directly reference a year, assumptions about the story should not be treated as confirmed until 4A Games provides official details.

Ray Tracing and a 60 FPS Target on PS5 Pro

Technical information published on the PlayStation Blog states that ray-tracing solutions will be used on both PS5 and PS5 Pro.

For PS5 Pro, the performance mode is targeting 60 frames per second. However, detailed comparisons covering resolution, ray-tracing quality, and differences between standard PS5 modes have not yet been provided.

The PC system requirements have also not been announced.

Given the Metro series' heavy use of advanced lighting, ray-tracing options and scalable graphics settings are likely to be particularly important for PC players.

There is also currently no official information about differences in resolution or frame rate between Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

February 2027 Is Becoming a Busy Release Window

Metro 2039's early-February release gives it an early position in what is shaping up to be a strong 2027 gaming calendar.

Preorders are expected to open later in 2026. Edition options, pricing, Early Access availability, and digital bonuses have not yet been announced.

For that reason, temporary store listings should not be treated as definitive until official information is released.

The 60 FPS target on PS5 Pro also does not guarantee the same level of performance on the standard PS5 or Xbox Series S.
