Nintendo has revealed the ground-up remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with its first gameplay footage. The Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive title will launch on November 5, 2026, introducing rebuilt visuals alongside new features such as voice acting, a modern camera system, manual jumping, and microphone interaction.

Hyrule Is Being Rebuilt From the Ground Up

The remake does more than simply run the Nintendo 64 version at a higher resolution.

Character models, environments, lighting, and animations are being recreated. Hyrule Castle Town can now be explored with freer camera control and a day-night cycle, while orchestral arrangements reinterpret the classic soundtrack with modern audio quality.

Voice acting during cutscenes represents a major change for this version of the game.

Nintendo has not yet explained exactly which characters will be fully voiced or whether Link himself will speak. For that reason, the presence of voice acting should not be interpreted as confirmation that every line of dialogue will be spoken.

Manual Jumping, Sprinting, and a Modern Camera

The new movement system allows Link to manually jump and accelerate in certain situations.

Adding direct control alongside the automatic ledge jumps of the original game could affect both exploration and combat design.

The modernized camera system is also intended to make target tracking easier in tighter environments.

Motion controls are supported for ranged tools such as the slingshot.

Players who prefer traditional analog controls should check the final options menu to confirm whether motion controls can be disabled, although Nintendo has not announced that any single control method will be mandatory.

One of the most unusual features is the ability to perform learned melodies by humming into the Switch 2 microphone.

This is presented as an optional convenience feature rather than a full replacement for traditional button-based Ocarina controls.

Keeping alternative controls available will be especially important for players in noisy environments or those who simply do not want to use the microphone.

Threads of Time and Other Assist Features

Threads of Time provides a visual story recap designed to remind players of their most recent objectives.

This could make it easier for players returning after a long break to remember which character they need to speak with or which area they should visit next.

The classic version often relied heavily on the player's memory for navigation, which could be a barrier for newer players.

Nintendo is also retaining some loading transitions between major areas.

This suggests that the world is not being converted into one completely seamless open space.

Instead, the remake appears focused on preserving the original pacing and structure of Ocarina of Time while modernizing its controls and presentation.

Pricing and Physical Edition

In the United States, the digital version is listed at $59.99, while the physical edition containing the full game card is priced at $69.99.

The physical version is reportedly not a Game-Key Card and includes the full game on the cartridge itself.

No official Collector's Edition has been announced.

A limited-edition Switch 2 console bundle launching on October 29 does not include the game, meaning Ocarina of Time Remake must be purchased separately.

Choosing Between the Remake and the Classic Version

The classic version available through Nintendo Switch Online may continue to appeal to players who want to experience the original visuals and control scheme, while the remake is a separately purchased modern version.
