Iron Gate released Valheim 1.0 on September 9, 2026, bringing the game's Early Access period of more than five and a half years to an end. The full release adds the Deep North biome, new enemies, equipment, building pieces, and achievements while also supporting cross-play across PC, consoles, and multiple operating systems.

Deep North Completes the Game's Final Major Biome

The centerpiece of the 1.0 update is the Deep North.

The new region transforms Valheim's cold and dangerous northern territory into a fully developed exploration area. According to Iron Gate's official content list, the update includes more than 40 weapons, four armor sets, over 10 creatures, more than 80 building pieces, over 30 crafting materials, and more than 20 food items.

Not all of these additions may be exclusive to the Deep North, as the figures describe the overall content included with version 1.0.

The tactics used by new enemies and the power level of new equipment can also affect the value of resources obtained from older biomes.

Experienced players therefore should not assume that their existing gear will automatically be sufficient for the final region.

Do Old Save Files Still Work?

Iron Gate has confirmed that existing save files are compatible with version 1.0.

However, areas that were already explored before the update may limit the generation of new world content.

For new players, following the intended biome progression instead of rushing directly to the Deep North will provide a more balanced experience.

Equipment, food, resistance systems, and other core mechanics are introduced gradually through earlier regions.

Cross-play groups may also need to organize voice communication and server passwords externally, as friend invitation systems can vary depending on the account and platform being used.

Regular server backups are recommended before major updates.
