Pearl Abyss has announced an October 15, 2026 release date for Charting the Unknown, the first major expansion for Crimson Desert. The DLC will expand the game's open world with underwater exploration, boats, base building, and new story content that once again puts Kliff and his companions in the spotlight.

The Expansion Takes Exploration Underwater

The most notable addition in Charting the Unknown is the ability to explore underwater regions of Pywel.

In the content shown so far, players can dive into new areas, use boats to travel across the water, and equip gear suited to different environmental conditions. These features have the potential to do more than simply add another layer to the map, potentially changing both resource gathering and traversal.

The expansion's reveal also features a massive mechanical enemy, suggesting that the physics-based combat systems from the base game will be applied to larger boss encounters.

The enemy's name, individual battle phases, and available rewards have not yet been revealed in detail.

What Will the Base-Building System Offer?

The base-building system introduced with the DLC is designed to give players a more permanent presence in the world.

The structures shown so far could serve as hubs for storage, preparation, and regional exploration. However, Pearl Abyss has not yet confirmed details such as production chains, defensive raids, or online sharing.

For that reason, it is too early to describe the system as a fully developed survival-game mechanic.
